If you look closely at the before photo you’ll see how poorly laid out the steps were going up onto the deck before. There was a single step off the deck onto the driveway and no hand rails. There was also an unattractive set of landscape timbers and a tree that was too close to the house.
Before
- Before: Side entry seen from the blow
I had the tree removed, took out the old single step, no hand rail access, and replaced it with a set of simple but generously wide and direct steps with hand rails on both sides. The landing was made possible by a dry stack rock retaining wall made from stones found on the property and backfilled with gravel. Large natural pavers and a flower bed were added to the new level landing area. The result was a much nicer looking entryway and landing, with a better flow of movement onto the deck and kitchen entrance.
After
- Side view of new planter area
- New pavers before the new steps
